Overview

When it comes to the windows and doors in your home, they do more than just provide a gateway to the outside world. They enhance the look of your home, provide light and air, and give you plenty of framed views from the inside out.
They are also the most common place a wall leaks. An opening that is out of square binds the unit, an opening that was flashed in the wrong order lets water behind the barrier, and both problems show up years later as rot you cannot see.
Because we frame the opening and install the barrier, the unit lands in a hole that was built for it and flashed into the wrap rather than over it.

How we run it
The order the work happens in

Frame the opening for the unit
Rough opening built to the manufacturer number, not rounded to the nearest inch.

Flash before the unit goes in
Sill pan first, then the unit, then the sides and head, in that order.

Set, shim and check it works
Plumb, square, and opened and closed before we leave the opening.
If you are replacing units in an older home, expect us to open a small area first. What is behind the trim decides whether this is an install or a repair.

Usually yes, but it changes the load path, so the header gets sized for the new span. That is framing work, and it is what we do.
