Decks and porches
Outdoor spaces that amuse you as much as being inside your own home. Cedar, Trex and heavy timber.
Overview
Outdoor rooms that get used
We create outdoor spaces that amuse you as much as being inside your very own home. Whether that is as simple as the perfect set up for early morning porch sitting, or showing off a newly constructed deck for Sunday's BBQ, we have got you covered.
A deck is a structure, not a surface. Footings, ledger attachment, joist spans and railing loads all have to be right before anyone thinks about the decking board on top. The failures that make the news are almost always the ledger or the footings.
We have built covered decks, cedar porches, carports, and heavy timber pergolas, including the pergola over the pool deck at Brookhaven Country Club and a cedar porch and carport in Virginia-Highland.

How we run it
The order the work happens in
-
01
Work out how you will use it
Morning coffee and a twenty person barbecue are not the same deck.
-
02
Set footings and structure
Footings, ledger and joists sized for the span and the load.
-
03
Cover it if it is covered
Roof or pergola structure framed and tied into the house properly.
-
04
Deck, rail and finish
Surface, railings and stairs, with the fasteners the material calls for.
Cedar looks best on day one and needs maintenance. Trex costs more up front and asks for almost none. In Georgia humidity that trade off is worth thinking about before you pick.

FAQ
Questions we get on this one
If yours is not here, call and we will answer it the same way.
(678) 588-5032Usually yes, and the requirement varies by jurisdiction. We will tell you what your city or county expects for your specific build.
Pine is the cheapest and needs the most upkeep, cedar is the best looking and needs regular maintenance, Trex costs most and asks for least. We have built all three.
Often, but the existing structure has to carry the new roof load. We check that before quoting rather than after building.
