This is the largest home we have framed: an 11,000 sq ft custom build in Sandy Springs, taken from foundation through framing, roofing and cornice with the same crew.

A build at this size is a scheduling problem as much as a carpentry one. Every day the shell stays open is a day the interior trades cannot start, so the whole plan was built around reaching dried in.

The challenge

Scale. On an 11,000 sq ft footprint a small error in layout compounds across the whole structure, and a crew that is not consistent from week to week leaves you with walls that do not agree with each other.

How we ran it

Consistency and patience, which is what a custom home of this size actually needs. The same crew ran the job from start to finish, which kept the layout honest and the roof line true across a very long elevation.

Roofing, cornice and Tyvek house wrap followed straight behind the framing so the structure was protected as it went up rather than after it topped out.
